The Westin is a very large property in Cancun, Mexico. The property is expansive, yet we never felt overcrowded or that the hotel was overrun with guests. Although there are 379(!) rooms on the property, it is easy to feel that you are still in a very private environment. However, I am sure this depends on what time of year you find yourself in Cancun (we were there in September).
Location – The hotel is about a 12-minute drive from the Cancun Airport. The hotel is located right on the beach and features breathtaking views of the water. The hotel is not in a noisy area and, in our experience, is generally very tranquil.
Customer Service – Service at the hotel was very good. We never wanted for anything and we were always treated warmly and graciously by staff. No one ever made a face when they saw that we had a toddler in our party, or when we asked for a high-chair. In fact, everyone went out of their way to accommodate us.
Accommodations – We booked our room at the last-minute and I submitted three Suite Night Awards (SNA) to try to upgrade our room for the trip. We were delighted that my SNAs were accepted and that we were placed in a Parlor Suite on the 5th floor. Our room had an oversize-bedroom, two bathrooms, as well as a kitchenette and dining and living rooms. The room also came with a desk area, very large closets, a mini-refrigerator, CD player and two TVs.
Amenities – The hotel features 4 pools, a spa, a gym, 3 outdoor bars, multiple restaurants, beach palapas, beach chairs, a gift store, onsite car rentals and lots of space for lounging and relaxing. The hotel also offers in-room dining and can arrange for any activity or service you would like – from nanny service to a sunset cruise to a fishing expedition. A quick trip the Concierge desk and your plans will be set.
Family Friendly – This hotel is incredibly family friendly. On our trip, there were several small children there and several multi-generational families enjoying the property.
Member Recognition – The Westin is a Starwood property and my Platinum status was recognized multiple times throughout our stay. A few Platinum benefits we received included complimentary daily breakfast for three (including George!), free internet for five devices throughout our stay and access to the Royal Beach Club (this was closed during our stay for renovation, but they still held a few events).
I am not sure if we will visit Cancun anytime soon (there are too many places to see on our list), but if we do, we will keep the Westin on our list as an option.
