George — 1 Month

Timeline: Today, I’m 1 month postpartum; George is 1 month old. Wow! Time flies!

How We’re Feeling: We are both feeling better by the day. I’m still taking care of George all by my lonesome during the day and we are settling in to our routine.  My joints have started hurting in the evenings, but my doctor says this is very typical with new moms. Ouch! Otherwise, we are both happy and healthy.

How George is Changing: George continues to grow rapidly. Our Georgie looks like a new baby every day!

How I’m Changing (Body After Baby): We’re 1 month post baby and I am still shrinking naturally. I’m slowly beginning to feel less sore and more like me. Wahoo! I don’t have a scale at home and therefore have no idea how much weight I have lost.  I guess I will find out at my 6-week postpartum appointment.

How I’m Staying Active: I went on my first postpartum run today and it was great. I ran 2 miles in 23:32 — much slower than my pre-pregnancy days, but I’ll take it. I didn’t plan to run today, but I was so motivated by the weather this afternoon that I just went after it. Otherwise, I’m still walking outside everyday with George, weather permitting. I’ve added a light weight routine back into my workouts and plan on doing it three times per week. If I can build more free time into my schedule, I’d love to add visits to the gym back into my routine and to try to run 3 days per week. I’m crossing my fingers here, but keeping my expectations very realistic and low.

What’s Keeping Me Busy: Taking care of George and taking care of household chores are still keeping me very busy these days. I have never done so much laundry in my life! I’m still breastfeeding George and this is very time-consuming. Also, even though I am on maternity leave…I have been working a little every day. Don’t worry — this isn’t cutting into my special time with George or John.  I am also back to cooking several times per week and I am very proud of the home-cooked meals that I have prepared for us. The meals are nothing fancy or complex, but making them helps me feel like “me” and puts some sense of normalcy back into our lives.

What’s New with George: George is babbling and it is oh-so-cute.  He has also started to like the swing that Uncle Zach and Aunt Nellie picked out and put together for him. Now that he is bigger, George seems to enjoy the rocking and vibrating functions. It is so cute to watch him in it. George is also sleeping much better and typically sleeps in two three or four-hour shifts throughout the night (with a feeding/changing) in between). Amen! This means George is very awake and alert during the day, aside from a few cat naps.

What’s New at Cliffwood: Not much is new around here.  However, we are sprucing up our living room couch by having the cushions re-stuffed. Our couch is only 7 years old, but it has really been lived in. Needless to say, we can’t wait to get our cushions and couch back.

The Nursery: The waiting game for the new Oeuf nursery furniture is underway. Crossing fingers and counting down…

New Mom Love: I am loving George’s swing. I love that he is enjoying it so much these days.
