Las Cruces Weekend

Did you have a good weekend? We did – we spent ours in Las Cruces, NM attending a wedding and spending time with family. I wish we could have had more time there, but work calls!

On Friday, John and I took an afternoon flight to El Paso and then drove over to Las Cruces. Once we arrived, we checked into our hotel and made a mad dash to La Posta in Mesilla. We met a bunch of family members for dinner and chatted over traditional NM cuisine.  We can’t seem to come to Las Cruces without a visit to this place (our last visit here was in July 2012).

On Saturday, John and I had a leisurely morning made up of gym time, watching news coverage and a eating a casual breakfast.  After we got cleaned up, I had one thing on my mind…green chile pizza! I had my heart set on eating at Lorenzo’s, but they weren’t open.  Instead, we made our way to the NMSU campus and gave Zeffiro’s a whirl. Delicious!

Afterwards, we changed (again) and made our way to the family Catholic church for the wedding of Javier (John’s cousin) to Crystal. I love weddings! The dinner and reception were nearby and we had a really nice time catching up with family and family friends.  Since John’s parents no longer live in New Mexico, we don’t get to see our New Mexican family members as often as we would like. Although this was a tough trip for us to make happen scheduling-wise, we were thrilled to be there and to see everyone.

On Sunday, John surprised me post-workout with a homemade green chile bagel from a nearby pastry and coffee shop. Friends, you haven’t lived until you have consumed one of these.

After another lazy morning, we met John’s parents for brunch at The Shed. I had a fantastic plate of migas and a side of red chile. So. Good.

The Shed

We ran into quite a few family members at The Shed on our way out of town — I guess everyone needed their red and green chile before they left too. Despite a delay at the airport, we had an uneventful journey home. Thank goodness!

We had a quick, but great, weekend in NM and we can’t wait to get back for more family time and delicious eats. In the meantime, I am happy to spend time in my own bed this week.
