We really enjoyed our stay at the Viceroy Riviera Maya and have always admired the sister property in Zihuatanejo (my parents hosted a “welcome” reception there for our wedding in 2006, we rang in 2012 there and, most recently, we had a family dinner there last summer). We had been eager to experience the Zihuatanejo property location for ourselves and we were grateful for the experience.
The hotel has 35 rooms and 35 suites spread out among the property. We spent our brief stay in a Lagoon Suite with a view of one of the hotel’s lagoons. Our room was spacious and had a private plunge pool, covered patio, oversize bathroom and dressing room, and living area. We really enjoyed the privacy our room offered, including lots of silence and the wafting sounds of the waves hitting the beach.
The property is expansive, yet has a very intimate feel. Amenities include 3 large pools (including one specifically for adults), tennis courts, gym, 3 outdoor bars, a fine dining restaurant (Marea), casual restaurant (La Villa), beach palapas, beach beds, a boutique, a spa and lots of space for lounging and relaxing.
The food and customer service at the hotel were truly exceptional and we never wanted for anything. The only glitch we experienced was a brief issue with our in-room wireless internet service– however, that was easily and quickly resolved.
It is important to note that the Viceroy welcomes children at this property – a rarity in Zihuatanejo. It is for this reason (although it is not the only one) that John and I will likely be staying at the hotel in the future. We’d recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zihua.
