We had a 5:00 am wakeup call in order to catch a 7:30 am flight to Koh Samui. Given our previous adventures with luggage and the sky train, we had the hotel car ferry us to the airport for our early departure. The St. Regis surprised us by preparing complimentary breakfast boxes for us to take on our journey. Our boxes contained bottled water, fresh orange juice, fruit, sandwiches and pastries from Jojo (!).
We were impressed by the hotel’s generosity and thoughtfulness. The boxes helped to distract us from this awesome Dunkin Doughnuts deliciousness at the airport!
Our Thai Airways flight delivered us to the island without incident and we were breakfasting at the Le Meridien Koh Samui before 10:00 am.
The view totally made the early morning hustle worth it.
I will provide a hotel review later, but we really enjoyed our stay at the Le Meridien. We stayed in an oceanfront villa that came with a nice comfortable bed, several outdoor/indoor lounging areas, as well as a private pool. We also had a beautiful view of the water.
What’s not to like, right? We spent the rest of the day orienting ourselves with the property, lounging, lunching, exercising and relaxing. We had Thai food for lunch and I fell in love with the restaurant’s veggie samosas and the Pad Si Ew (stir fried rice noodles with chicken, kale and soy sauce).
In the evening, we made our way back to the hotel lobby pool area for a special celebration that the hotel hosts nightly. Every evening at 17:19, hotel staff launches paper lanterns, and then helps hotel guests to launch their own. Traditional holds that you are to make a wish as your Lantern takes flight.
Cheesed out yet? Seriously…it was fun and a very memorable experience. Afterwards, we enjoyed a low-key dinner at the hotel’s restaurant that overlooks the pool and water.
