After spending a recent weekend in New Orleans (if you missed that, you can read about it here, here and here), John and I were inspired to celebrate Fat Tuesday with a traditional feast. Thus, we picked up a few traditional culinary items while in New Orleans, including King Cake and Jambalaya mixes. This afternoon, I assembled my King Cake from the mix (complete with a baby!) — it was ridiculously easy.
Meanwhile, I prepared red beans and sausage in the slow cooker, brown rice in the rice cooker and andouille sausage and shrimp jambalaya on the stove top. Julie and Ian brought over homemade cornbread. Add in some snacks, Abita beer and wine and we had a meal. Add in our friends and we had a dinner party.
For whatever reason, events at our house always involve a photo shoot of some sort. Tonight was no different and featured the baby in the King Cake.
Yes, that was probably influenced by Abita and the wine. Ah well, good times. So, note to you…if you are invited to my house, please be ready to strike a pose…or model my Toms! Sorry, you had to be there! Hope your Fat (or regular) Tuesday was fun!
