Day of Leisure

Friday, December 30th

We both slept really well on our first night in Z. In fact, we both slept until just before 8:00 AM — an unusual occurrence in our household. After John enjoyed coffee (the hotel delivers it your door), we walked to the terrace to enjoy breakfast.

The hotel provides a lovely continental breakfast to all guests that includes a tropical fruit plate, fresh-squeezed juice, hand-prepared jams and fresh breads.

Since we were extra hungry that morning, John and I also shared a plate of eggs with chorizo, beans, chilaquiles and bacon. It was divine! The chorizo was fantastic!

After breakfast, we went for a nice walk along the beach. Then it was time for some pool/reading/dozing/chatting action. Of all of the vacations we have taken, the pool at LQT remains a favorite. We enjoyed leisurely time until we got hungry. Then, it was game time. With an expanded menu, John and I had to plan what to order. It is all about the food, after all! We ended up splitting an order of guacamole as a starter.

For entrees, John had the Shrimp Tacos and I ordered the tortilla soup, a new menu item.

The soup was unbelievable. Spicy and savory — my new favorite tortilla soup of all time. The broth was divine — flavored with the perfect blend of chile pepper and broth. After lunch we laid in the sun for a while longer, then retired to our rooms. I sprawled out in the hammock for more napping and reading.

When we began thinking about dinner, we both wanted casual and relaxing with fuss. Read: very casual attire and uncomplicated setting. That’s how we ended up at an another old favorite — Il Mare.

Il Mare serves Italian/Spanish fusion fare and it is wonderful. In past years we have seen Betsey Johnson (the designer) there and we were hoping for a repeat sighting. However, we were out of luck. No Betsey Johnson, although the place was packed! I started with an Il Mare Mai Tai (a house specialty) and a bowl of minestrone soup. This soup (can you tell I love soup?) was full of delicious vegetables. The vegetable stock is the stuff of legends — amazing! For my entrée, I couldn’t help myself…I ordered the rigatoni arrabiata. It was sinfully delicious. If you are going to cheat on your GF diet, this is the way to go! From Il Mare, John and I were able to enjoy the views of the bay and take in the beautiful evening breezes.

What a wonderful day of leisure we had!
